Operation Television Detox

I don't think I have been quite honest about how bad our TV obsession has become since February.
Like, went from watching parts of Sesame Street and maybe one Thomas the Train a day... to a full on line up. (at least 3 hours a day... but not all at one time)
I know how it started.
ME
We ::read ME:: had to purge the house to get it ready to go on the market.
We, no,  I had to keep the house clean every single day because showings would pop up. We once had 6 showings in one day!  All the while Brandon was already commuting from Dallas. At first his commute was M-Th... Then M-F, (which really meant Sunday to Friday.)

Which is how they became Television Junkies.

Not to mention the total of 3 weeks we lived in a hotel in Frisco. TV? Sure? DVDs? Sure. 3.5 hour drive... Plug in the DVD player....  It is sick looking back on it.
But I did what I had to do to get us here.

But today was DAY 1.

I am taking it all back. Cold turkey.

((And please know, I don't care how much TV your kids watch. I am just concerned about my zombies.))

I hit my limit today when neither boys would nap.
I left them in their room for an hour and told them they could play, or lay down, or read a book. But they had to stay in their room.
Then I heard through the door, "I want to watch Monkey NOW!" (Curious George)

And I snapped.
I unplugged all the TVs.
And after an hour I let them out.
They played for a bit, then went downstairs and tried to turn on the TV.
It didn't come on.
I said, "humm, I guess it is broken."
And then they walked away and found something else to do.

It was a glorious afternoon.
We played upstairs.
We played outside.
They played alone.
They even played together.

Why did I not do this 3 months ago when we arrived!!?

 Chalk train tracks.

 Reading alone.

 Being wild.

He looks like he is touching the wall, but he is making his shadow dance. They came up with this one all alone.

Ahhh.... it was nice to remember what we did all day before we had the 'line up'.

  1. I love the chalk train track idea!!! I am going to steal that idea and pretend I am up with it all on my own - just wait for my blog where I blog about MY "excellent train track idea."
