A few years ago, more like 7 years ago. My mom got me a sewing machine for Christmas. I HAD to have one. Well, I have only made pillows for my classroom and watched Rita help me add length to my curtains. So, now that I have a long weekend, and all summer to try again.
I think it should be a simple transition back into the sewing machine world. I saw these on Kimberly's blog and I think I can do it. It is really simple, doesn't even require the sewing machine which is great because the hard part is threading my sewing machine!! The directions only teach you how to attach the paci... but I think I could sew ribbon on the burp cloths.
So, after that, I think I could make those super cute fabric colored burp cloths. Katie Corely--- I may be calling you for help!
I had a similar idea when I was pregnant and guess what? The fabric I purchased is still in my linen closet untouched, eleven years later.

A sewing machine can pay for itself in a matter of days if used to make drapery, which is insanely expensive. That's mostly what I use mine for, although when I had to make matching bridesmaid / flower girl dresses for Cayley and I, it came in handy and saved a bucket of money then, too.
If you're planning to breastfeed, it's good to think carefully about pacifiers, which can teach babies improper sucking techniques. I was forbidden by my lactation consultant to use any pacifiers, so we did not, and Cayley didn't seem to miss what she'd never known. I breast-fed Cayley for two and a half years, so I'm a walking encyclopedia on that much at least, although there's plenty of other things about parenting that I've NEVER managed to learn... :-)
