Traveling Tips for Twins

So, I completely learned this the hard way. Last weekend we went to Baton Rouge for Scott's graduation. We shared a room with Ed and Rita (and I want to say thank you and we are completely grateful) but....
we had one room, one bed, two cribs. 6 humans.

We arrived Friday afternoon, checked in, and instantly looked for the pool. No pool. No big deal, we will just play in the room with the plethora of toys we brought. (sarcasm) So now it's time for the boys to take a nap. I tried to make the hotel crib more like their crib, so I put their sheets on it, packed it full of multiple pacifiers and their lovey.  So, we put them down, closed the blinds, turned off the tv, and had to hide. We were crawling on the floor in the dark trying to avoid being seen. Scott, Brandon, and I just layed there in the dark, waiting for the boys to pass out. Needless to say, it didn't happen.
Instead, this happened:

So, no nap. Then Scott wanted to eat at Chime's. Which could be very close to the last time he ever ate there. Brandon and I agreed, knowing there would be meltdowns. And there were. Hudson doesn't like to sit now that he can crawl. So he was all over the place at dinner. Squealing, crying, making a fuss. Then our food comes. Hudson won't sit in his seat. So I am holding him, trying to eat, and keep him from crying. Brandon just looks at me and is like that is it, go to the car with him.
So we leave, and Brandon and Scott are left to pay, and pack up. Now Luke is fussy. Brandon is holding him and when he reaches down to pick up Luke's paci... Luke grabs a pint of beer (which no one had time to drink) and pours it all over Brandon. Needless to say, everyone was in the car very shortly after that. And I washed Brandon's shorts in the sink that night.

I will spare you the rest of the details from the weekend but it was pretty similar. Although, they were great at Scott's actual graduation and even made it to the after party at Serrano's.

So my lesson learned: Call ahead to check about a pool. Put sheets up in between the cribs. And bring more toys than you think you will need.

We are staying in town this weekend for the first time in 2 weeks. I am pretty excited about it! :)

  1. We learned that the hard way a couple months ago :/ We had to go to Missouri for some firefighting stuff Derek had to do and we stayed with my brother in his way too small for 8 people house . Did I mention they have a 3 & 5 year old? I couldn't put them anywhere down to nap what one of his kids weren't waking them up. It was a nightmare! I also learned that it's probably not a good idea to go out to dinner after having them in the car for six hours and then being introduced to a new place. On the upside, we went to a wedding a couple weeks ago in Cypress and they were angels the whole time. It's a crapshoot...LOL

  2. Luke giggling reminds me of my dad - he can think of something and start CRACKING up at it, and the rest of us will have no idea what he's laughing so hard at hahahaha. But I could listen to those giggles and look at Hudson's naked booty ALL DAY.

Hey the traveling troubles could be worse. My parents took Emily to Germany when she was like a year and a half old. Trying to get a baby over jet lag - not fun. Plus, at one point on the train, she thought the bald guy in the seat in front was my grandpa (dad's dad) and started slapping his head like she did at home...

Good luck with travels in the future!
