Just Dad and The Boys

Well I am back to do my bi-annual post. After my experience yesterday evening and night with the boys by myself I felt I needed to share it. I'll first show a couple pics from earlier in the day when mommy was here with us when we went to the park for the first time to do some swinging. Luke and Hudson were both pretty unsure of the whole situation, but once they settled in they seemed to enjoy it.

When we got home they decided to relax by both playing/chewing/eating their little giraffe toy named Sophie. According to Suzie, "everyone has one", therefore Luke and Hudson do too. But to her defense, it is their favorite toy. Luke was enjoying eating his the other day so much that I was convinced it actually tasted good, so I decided to sample it myself. And just as I thought, nope no taste at all.

Now that was all before Suzie left to go on a bachelorette party. I describe the situation as when you were in middle school and had a substitute teacher. We all know how that went. Well Luke and Hudson apparently have already learned because I know they don't act like this in front of Suzie. Just to point out, I've been alone with them for much longer periods throughout the day before, but it is usually earlier in the day. We all know the later the day gets the crazier they get. Anyways I only had them from about 4:30 until I put them down to bed, but it was quite an adventure. I have no idea how Suzie does it by herself every week when I'm at school.

So our first adventure was to eat some food. This is when they treated me like the substitute teacher. We were trying to eat peas when all hell broke loose. They were teaming up on me and I couldn't do anything about it. Luke was drooling and snotting all over the place and just spitting out his food. Hudson kept lifting his head up to the ceiling so I could barely get any food in. Then they started looking at each other like giving each other signals. They were grabbing each other with food all over their hands and now legs, face, hair, you name it. I did manage to find a quick second to take some pics, but this had to be documented.

Then usually after we eat we play a little before taking a bath and going to bed. Well when Suzie is by herself she doesn't bathe them because she is outnumbered. So I was planning on doing a little play time, get them ready for bed, then give them bottles before they fall asleep, easy as that right. Of course not, I was the substitute teacher. The last thing on Hudson's mind was playing and then Luke decided to follow Hudson's lead and started crying as well. I then started to panic and was telling myself "this is not the way I drew this up". So in true panic mode, I thought what is the thing I know will settle them down. Bath Time!! So I was literally running around the house getting the bath ready while they were laying on the ground plotting their next move to destroy me. Unfortunately I was unable to get anymore pics because the rest was just a blur.
I bathed Hudson first while Luke sat patiently in his Boppy. I then transferred Hudson over to the drying area while I loaded Luke in the tub. Of course Hudson is on edge at this point, so it wasn't quite that easy. When Hudson was done he went to the Bobby station and waited, not patiently like Luke, but he survived. Next step, the final feeding.

My thinking here was to feed Hudson and put him to bed while Luke played/tried to eat anything he could his hands on. It started out great until Luke saw Hudson was eating. That didn't go over so well and screaming ensued. So I ran over and put Hudson on the floor next to Luke. At this point I am sweating, it is getting intense. So I have two hands and two bottles, they are both happy. Luke can hold his own bottle now when he wants to and thank you God he decided he wanted to last night. Of course it's not the best hold and I look over and he has milk all over his face.

Hudson doesn't care, he's happy that's all he cares about. Luke managed to get enough to hold him over so I threw a paci in his mouth and told him to sit tight I'd be back. Hudson finished his bottle and was out like a light, off to bed he went. I managed to come back and Luke was still laying in the same spot and almost put himself to sleep. He ended up not even finishing his bottle he was that tired. So at about 8:00 I was able to take my first breath and my two boys were sound asleep. I did it!! The substitute teacher managed to survive!!

OK well that was a little longer than I had intended but I only get this opportunity every six months. The teacher will be back next week and all I can say is God Bless Suzie for doing this every single day having a two against one disadvantage. Toughest job ever, but she is doing awesome!

  3. Hah, trying not to laugh too loud at my desk so my coworkers don't think I'm crazier than they already do.

I can only imagine the plots these two boys are going to plan as they get older! Fun times ahead!

And we all must agree, Suz is a super hero!
